CA Seal of Biliteracy
Students are eligible for the California Seal of Biliteracy by completing the following requirements:
Demonstrate English Proficiency through ONE of the following methods:
- Complete all English Language Arts requirements for graduation with an overall GPA of 3.0 or above in those classes.
OR one of the following:
a. Score of “standard met” or “standard exceeded” on CAASPP for English/Language Arts in 11th grade.
b. Pass an English AP exam with a score of 3 or higher (AP English Language and Composition, AP English Literature of Composition)
c. Pass an English IB examination with a score of 4 or higher.
d. Achieve a score of 480 or above on the Evidence - Based Reading and Writing section of the SAT.
Additionally, demonstrate proficiency in one of more languages, other than English, through ONE of the following methods:
- Successfully complete a four-year course of study in a world language at the high school or higher level, attaining an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher in that course of study, AND demonstrate oral proficiency in the language comparable to that required to pass an AP or IB examination.
OR one of the following:
- Pass a world language AP examination with a score of 3 or higher or an IB examination with a score of 4 or higher
- Demonstrate oral proficiency in the language through the District approved assessment called the STAMP test.
If the primary language of a student is other than English, the student shall demonstrate English proficiency on ELPAC.
